This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Elijah Jones, the No. 193 name on the board, stolen at No. 242.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The cost of the Corum reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The Shaq Thompson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Blake Corum in No. 65 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had cheaper options than Javon Baker at pick 87, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jalyx Hunt at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Myles Harden in pick No. 213 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking JD Bertrand in the 231st pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Elijah Jones at Round 7, Pick 22 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
