Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Commanders came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
The Milton III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The cost of the Robinson reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
In the end it comes back to Olumuyiwa Fashanu, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 36 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adonai Mitchell. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 40, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 3 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg in Round 3, Pick 37 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at the 102nd pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Darius Robinson at pick 141 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joe Milton III at pick No. 181 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at slot 223 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
