Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
They are betting Hopper proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Guerendo.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ladd McConkey. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at No. 48, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Malachi Corley at slot 68 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They liked Javon Foster enough to skip the value, taking him in the 104th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ben Sinnott at Round 4, Pick 8 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 136 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 152 says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jared Wiley at slot 182 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: JD Bertrand still on the board at No. 229. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
