Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Caedan Wallace, the No. 213 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 245.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. If Cooper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Edgerrin Cooper enough to skip the value, taking him in the 41st pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Value with a capital V on Cooper Beebe in pick 58, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Dominick Puni at No. 82 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They let Calen Bullock come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 28. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Tyler Davis, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Jase McClellan in pick No. 202, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at the 219th overall pick. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Caedan Wallace in pick 245 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Bub Means at the 255th overall pick is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
