The trade table was where it all came apart. The Packers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Zinter reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
However the rest shakes out, Cooper at that price is a win they earned. The Packers paired the rookies with proven help, Creed Humphrey leading the way.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 32 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Brian Thomas Jr. for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kamren Kinchens at the 58th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They barely believed it either: Edgerrin Cooper still on the board at the 61st overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Trey Benson in pick 88, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They went early on Zak Zinter in the 91st pick, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
