There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chargers took Mycah Pittman a full 128 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Landing Latu that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A edge rusher of that caliber at slot 37 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Roman Wilson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Drake Nugent in the 105th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Joe Milton III at pick 142 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Harrell this early at the Round 6 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, Mycah Pittman in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
