The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Call it a C+ and check back in two years.
Reaching for Randolph Jr. left real value on the table behind him. The Jackson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Patrick Paul in No. 47 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Ja'Lynn Polk in the 50th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Legette at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Khyree Jackson in the 102nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kitan Oladapo well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 179, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 231 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
