The real work happened on the phones. The Packers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. McClellan has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The Fletcher Cox pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nate Wiggins. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Keon Coleman higher than the 51st overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cooper Beebe at the 58th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in slot 83, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Zach Frazier at pick No. 88 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Beau Brade in No. 119 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Justin Walley at the Round 4 slot is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Andrew Coker enough to skip the value, taking him in the 172nd pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy bit of business in the 197th overall pick, where Tahj Brooks graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick 217, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Value said wait; Jase McClellan in Round 6, Pick 44 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Bru McCoy at pick No. 240 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
