The Packers did not so much draft Edefuan Ulofoshio as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They will answer for taking safety early while edge rusher and quarterback went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Eichenberg steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ja'Lynn Polk in the 58th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at pick 83 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 26, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at pick No. 92, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe in the 97th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Tommy Eichenberg was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cole Bishop adds a safety and leaves edge rusher and quarterback untouched.
They paid up for Jaylan Ford at the 137th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They reached into another round for Gabe Hall, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Sheridan Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Zion Nelson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Edefuan Ulofoshio well ahead of where he belonged. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A reach for Erick All in the 240th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
