You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with J.J. Weaver in pick 219.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid up for Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 9 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Ja'Lynn Polk at the 57th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Tykee Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 92. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They did well to land MarShawn Lloyd in pick 125, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Christian Jones went about where he belonged in the 203rd pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Tanor Bortolini in slot 217, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
J.J. Weaver at pick No. 219 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Watson at pick 246 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
