For all the boxes ticked, the Packers skipped the loudest one: edge rusher is exactly as bare as it was.
The Gentry pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Nubin to cover a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Nubin at the 41st pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at pick 51 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on TreVeyon Henderson in No. 83; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cooper Beebe this early at the 92nd overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cedric Gray at slot 119 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board had cheaper options than Dylan Laube at the Round 4 slot, and it noticed. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Gray at Round 6, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 6, Pick 42 with a little surplus value in Sheridan Jones. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Eric Gentry at pick No. 219, and the board did not agree. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Donovan Jennings in the 240th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
