Green Bay Packers

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Packers.

For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Packers walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

Abrams-Draine falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Every board in the league had Chambers lower, and that gap is the story. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 31
In pick 25 they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 38
Chop Robinson in the 41st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Josh Newton · CB · rank 58
Josh Newton in the 57th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 97
Audric Estime at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Tyler Davis · DT · rank 96
They took Tyler Davis at par in Round 3, Pick 28, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 120
A clean, defensible pick in No. 125 with a little surplus value in Sataoa Laumea. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Kris Abrams-Draine · CB · rank 118
A quiet steal in slot 135: Kris Abrams-Draine for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 222
They reached a country mile for Steele Chambers at pick No. 203, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 218
No edge and no loss on Blake Watson in slot 217; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Marcus Harris · DL-EDGE · rank 228
Marcus Harris in Round 6, Pick 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Trey Wedig · OT · rank 260
They jumped the gun on Trey Wedig, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
