It is the swing that defines the weekend: DeMonte Capehart in Round 6, Pick 26, a good 97 spots before the room expected him. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Rakestraw Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 1 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In No. 11 they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
JC Latham in pick No. 37 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Nubin is a better player than slot 43 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Circle this one: T.J. Tampa at No. 69 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Ennis Rakestraw Jr. all the way to the 75th overall pick, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Bucky Irving at the 106th pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ray Davis in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached into another round for Austin Booker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Isaiah Davis in Round 6, Pick 14 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 201 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
