Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Dylan Laube got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at slot 180.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Spann-Ford reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 23 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in the Round 2 slot, with Keon Coleman worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Patrick Paul in Round 2, Pick 21 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Khyree Jackson in the 103rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid up for Kitan Oladapo at slot 137 when waiting would have done the job. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Laube in No. 180 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in pick 193. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 231st pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
