The Cowboys spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Junior Colson at No. 78 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sedrick Van Pran. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Dillon Johnson in pick 118 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Sataoa Laumea in the 124th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Sincere Haynesworth at slot 154 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jaylin Simpson in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Sam Hartman at pick No. 212 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Daequan Hardy was the payoff at slot 236. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steele Chambers slid further than he should have, and pick 245 is lovely value for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
