You could see the war room lean forward. Jaden Hicks at pick 135 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback and interior defensive lineman went begging.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 18
JC Latham at the 25th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
Kamren Kinchens at pick No. 41 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 57
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the 57th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 74
Blake Corum slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the running back. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 82
Mike Sainristil at Round 3, Pick 28 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 103
Dominick Puni in pick 125 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
A curious use of slot 135. Quarterback and interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a safety in Jaden Hicks did not.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Michael Barrett · LB · rank 184
Taking Michael Barrett in No. 203 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 200
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where De'Corian Clark graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 217
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 224
They let Brevyn Spann-Ford come to them and pounced at the 240th pick. The roster fit checks out.
