The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jake Majors, pick No. 162, roughly 67 picks past where he belonged. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If Mays pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A real need, handled.
Deone Walker at pick No. 58 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Dylan Fairchild in slot 91 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at Round 4, Pick 26. It adds depth where they could use a little.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach pick 162 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaydn Ott in the 242nd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cooper Mays at the 250th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
