Every other box got a look, but quarterback did not. The Packers will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The cost of the Davis reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Jones falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Tyler Nubin at par in No. 34, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Good price on Byron Murphy II in the 46th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Edgerrin Cooper in pick 57 is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at the 68th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
McKinnley Jackson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They went early on Ray Davis in Round 3, Pick 29, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Johnny Dixon in slot 125, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Braelon Allen at pick No. 135 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Cedric Johnson in No. 153; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Christian Jones in slot 203. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in the 217th overall pick: Jalen Green for less than the market said. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Joshua Cephus in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Dylan McMahon at pick 224, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Dwight McGlothern in the 246th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
