Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Lander Barton got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at pick 128. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If Campbell pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in slot 32: Luther Burden III for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Sanders went about where he belonged in No. 64. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Josh Simmons at the 69th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Raheim Sanders in Round 3, Pick 32; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Lander Barton all the way to pick No. 128, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Sonny Styles at par in the 160th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board had cheaper options than DJ Campbell at pick 193, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Bryce Foster higher than the Round 7 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
