Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Walter Rouse at slot 250 is 31 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Xavier Legette in the 36th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Brandon Dorlus in the 65th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dillon Johnson at the Round 3 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
James Williams at Round 4, Pick 33 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
LaDarius Henderson at pick 159 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ethan Driskell in pick No. 172 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Magee. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Jeremy Flax in pick No. 246, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Walter Rouse at the 250th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
