Kansas City Chiefs

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Javon Bullard got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 98. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

If Edwards pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 44
They jumped the gun on Kris Jenkins, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 84
They read the board right and Marist Liufau was the payoff at the 94th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Matt Goncalves · OT · rank 105
Matt Goncalves in slot 95 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.33 · Pick 96 · Daijun Edwards · RB · rank 132
They reached a country mile for Daijun Edwards at No. 96, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 63
Taking Javon Bullard in the 98th pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 128
Javon Foster at the 133rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Nehemiah Pritchett · CB · rank 144
Nice patience on Nehemiah Pritchett, who had no business lasting to pick No. 158. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 150
Somehow Javion Cohen was still sitting there in pick 172, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 184
Javon Baker in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.30 · Pick 250 · Mark Perry · S · rank 252
They took Mark Perry at par in Round 7, Pick 30, which is nothing to complain about. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
