Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The Abrams-Draine pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Every board in the league had Barner lower, and that gap is the story.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 10 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 36, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Chop Robinson in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Zak Zinter at the 101st pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A premium they did not need to pay, Malik Washington a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick No. 138 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; AJ Barner in pick 181 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Erick All at the 220th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
