Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Logan Fano at No. 174 is 84 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Landing Lew that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Chris Johnson was the payoff at pick 45. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emmanuel Pregnon at the 49th overall pick is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ted Hurst at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Connor Lew at the 115th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Isaiah World higher than Round 5, Pick 14, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Demond Claiborne at slot 162 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Aaron Graves in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Fano this early at the 174th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A conviction pick on Keyshaun Elliott at pick No. 211 that the board grades a round light. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
