You build a draft on nights like this. Ollie Gordon II had no business being available in pick No. 238, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Buchanan to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the 26th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jalon Walker. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the 38th pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach for Jared Ivey in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jackson in pick No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
They liked Jake Majors enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 90. It fills a real need, too.
Andrew Mukuba in slot 106 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tight end of that caliber at pick 217 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A conviction pick on Teddye Buchanan at Round 7, Pick 4 that the board grades a round light. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Steal is underselling it; Ollie Gordon II at No. 238 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
