They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
Gore Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
On value alone, Mustapha makes the weekend a net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
They talked themselves into Kingsley Suamataia at Round 2, Pick 2, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Nice patience on Malachi Corley, who had no business lasting to No. 68. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cam Hart in the 103rd overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Justin Eboigbe in pick 137 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Malik Mustapha was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for Frank Gore Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Trevin Wallace went about where he belonged in slot 231. A minor need, but a need all the same.
