Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Patriots to leave a draft. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Every board in the league had Iheanachor lower, and that gap is the story. However the rest shakes out, Caldwell at that price is a win they earned.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 31 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Keionte Scott went about where he belonged in the 63rd overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ted Hurst at slot 95 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Jack Endries in pick No. 125, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Oscar Delp in No. 131, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Kaleb Elarms-Orr in the 171st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A conviction pick on Justin Jefferson at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A straight-up fair deal on Jalen Stroman at Round 6, Pick 17, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They read the board right and Jeff Caldwell was the payoff at pick No. 202. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Noah Whittington at slot 212 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fair-plus on Trey Zuhn III, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
