The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Ford steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Wilson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Amarius Mims in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 34th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Jermaine Burton in pick 43, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 3 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to the 137th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
You do not let a safety like Malik Mustapha reach pick No. 193 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylan Ford in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
