Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Reiman pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, edge rusher and other spots went begging.
They banked enough surplus on Jones to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Patrick Paul in No. 64, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the 67th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dominick Puni at slot 79 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Max Melton come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 25. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Michael Hall Jr., who had no business lasting to the 90th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A big swing on Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 109, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Elijah Jones at cornerback with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open.
Tip Reiman at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
