When a board-topper like Ryan Flournoy slides to slot 254, you do not overthink it, and the Chiefs did not. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Fiske pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Amarius Mims slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 4 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braden Fiske at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Patrick Paul in the 74th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Ja'Lynn Polk in pick No. 79, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at the 90th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Isaac Guerendo at No. 132 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dwight McGlothern at slot 154 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They paid sticker price for Joe Milton III in pick 196, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ryan Flournoy in pick 254 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
