Whoever sat across the table from the Chiefs should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.

The Chiefs indulged a want in Jones while a need in edge rusher and linebacker stayed open. Milton III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.15 · Pick 47 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 45
T'Vondre Sweat in slot 47 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
Javon Bullard in No. 56 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Patrick Paul · OT · rank 69
By-the-book stuff, Patrick Paul at pick 64 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 73
No drama and no debate, Ja'Lynn Polk went about where he belonged in pick No. 70. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Max Melton · CB · rank 77
Good price on Max Melton in the 80th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 88
Dominick Puni at Round 3, Pick 24 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Trey Benson worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 115
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Elijah Jones adds a cornerback and leaves edge rusher and linebacker untouched.
R4.31 · Pick 131 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 122
A quiet steal in pick No. 131: Theo Johnson for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 201
The board had Joe Milton III higher than Round 6, Pick 42, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
