Kansas City Chiefs

No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Chiefs.

The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still glaring, the Chiefs used the 102nd pick on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not exactly short of.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The trade work was a quiet net positive. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.22 · Pick 22 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 27
Cooper DeJean at pick 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 73
Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 71 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots to take Khyree Jackson, a cornerback that was not the priority.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
Nothing to complain about; Johnny Wilson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 134 with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 156
Isaiah Davis at the 159th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 176
They took Layden Robinson at par in No. 173, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
