For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at tight end, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.
The Polk reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Keon Coleman in the Round 2 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Ja'Lynn Polk enough to skip the value, taking him in the 64th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Patrick Paul in the 74th pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Michael Hall Jr.. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaden Hicks at Round 3, Pick 27 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Johnny Wilson in slot 132 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Dwight McGlothern at pick 159 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 179; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Joe Milton III in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 235 with a little surplus value in Nathan Thomas. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
