The Chiefs ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
Javon Bullard in the 58th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Javon Baker at par in slot 71, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 74 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in the 91st overall pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Zak Zinter at pick No. 102 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Wilson at No. 118, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
