For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chiefs walked out of the weekend still thin at quarterback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Melton. Reaching for Worthy left real value on the table behind him.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A reach for Xavier Worthy in pick No. 47; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braden Fiske. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Bralen Trice in the 64th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Max Melton slipping to the 84th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Will Shipley at slot 101, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Johnny Wilson went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 19. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Dallin Holker at pick 142 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
