Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Chiefs came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Reiman reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at slot 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Xavier Worthy at pick No. 64 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in pick 66; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Max Melton in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A quiet steal in No. 95: Trey Benson for less than the market said. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Maason Smith a notch or two before his time. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jacob Cowing in the 132nd pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Tip Reiman in Round 5, Pick 23 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Layden Robinson at the 173rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sam Hartman in slot 252 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
