The Chiefs ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Every board in the league had Reed lower, and that gap is the story. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Getting Benson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Braden Fiske a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ricky Pearsall in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Suamataia in No. 64, a step better than break-even. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Ja'Lynn Polk in slot 75 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in the 84th pick, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trey Benson is a better player than pick 95 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cam Hart at the 98th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Layden Robinson in pick No. 159 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had cheaper options than Tip Reiman at pick 173, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value said wait; Austin Reed in No. 252 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
