The tape said wait; the Chiefs did not. Dane Key went at pick No. 133, a good 46 picks before the board was ready. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A conviction pick on Wyatt Milum at Round 1, Pick 32 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Luke Kandra at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 71 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Jack Bech, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Davison Igbinosun at the 107th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Dane Key in slot 133 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Garrett Dellinger at slot 168, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Stone Handy at No. 217 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Savion Williams at Round 7, Pick 41 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
