The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Mason McCormick slide 23 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Tyler Nubin at No. 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in the 58th pick, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jonah Elliss in pick No. 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson at pick 91 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Maason Smith, who had no business lasting to slot 126. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Mason McCormick all the way to Round 5, Pick 33, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Myles Harden at the Round 6 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in slot 219, with Julian Pearl worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 245th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Tyrice Knight in the 255th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
