Chicago Bears

Best value of the weekend goes to the Bears for Lane: C.

by Zilla · 2026 NFL Draft · 10 picks · 8 steals · 0 reaches
Value A-
Need B

Future C

The Bears did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Ja'Kobi Lane fell into pick 143. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Dexter Lawrence II pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

The verdict is a shrug for now, with the swing picks left to write the real ending.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.23 · Pick 23 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
In No. 23 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Caleb Lomu · OT · rank 28
Caleb Lomu at the 40th overall pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman in slot 57 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Zion Young · DE-EDGE · rank 42
Taking Zion Young in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.34 · Pick 98 · Malik Muhammad · CB · rank 99
No edge and no loss on Malik Muhammad in pick No. 98; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.3 · Pick 143 · Ja'Kobi Lane · WR · rank 98
Somehow Ja'Kobi Lane was still sitting there in pick 143, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The roster fit checks out.
R5.31 · Pick 171 · Joe Royer · TE · rank 127
Joe Royer at Round 5, Pick 31 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.25 · Pick 241 · Aiden Fisher · LB · rank 230
The board had Aiden Fisher higher than the 241st pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
R7.40 · Pick 256 · Zavion Thomas · WR · rank 225
Circle this one: Zavion Thomas at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.41 · Pick 257 · Miller Moss · QB · rank 250
Miller Moss at No. 257 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
