You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cowboys did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most.
Reaching for Harris left real value on the table behind him. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a lead back with juice. A clean fit for the roster.
A conviction pick on Shilo Sanders at pick No. 62 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
They talked themselves into Denver Harris at the 94th pick, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Dasan McCullough at pick 126 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Akheem Mesidor a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reach for Keaten Wade in Round 6, Pick 30; a little patience would have been rewarded. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They went early on Damon Payne Jr. in the Round 7 slot, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
