Somebody in pick 153 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cardinals sat still while Kyle McCord, the No. 120 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. Reaching for Williams left real value on the table behind him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A wild overpay on Cameron Williams in Round 1, Pick 16, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Trey Amos at slot 47 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Barrett Carter. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Rylie Mills at No. 114, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Kyle McCord in the 153rd overall pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
