Hard to follow the map here. The Texans bypassed running back, wide receiver and other spots to take Maason Smith at the Round 1 slot, a spot they had covered. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The cost of the Williams reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Cross III value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.

Fair-plus on Amarius Mims, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The roster fit checks out.
James Williams at the Round 3 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Good price on Junior Colson in the 115th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Howard Cross III at slot 123. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in pick 152, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
