You can hear the double-takes from here. The Texans took Brandon Coleman at Round 4, Pick 23, roughly 49 spots before his name belonged. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Getting Liufau where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner, reach and all.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in the 59th overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Brandon Coleman in No. 123 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Marist Liufau in the 127th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Kimani Vidal in Round 5, Pick 28 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Mark Perry at No. 239, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Donovan Jennings in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
