The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Coleman steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They are betting Laube proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get the face of the franchise, outstanding value to boot.
Adonai Mitchell at the 34th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 41st pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach slot 88 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy bit of business in No. 103, where Gabriel Murphy graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Dylan Laube at Round 5, Pick 1 when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Kamal Hadden in pick No. 193 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Andrew Raym. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
