You can draft well and still miss the point. The Dolphins did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The cost of the Cole reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Gore Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. at Round 1, Pick 21 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zach Frazier in the 57th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at pick No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They let Jarrian Jones come to them and pounced at pick 157. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric Watts. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Justin Rogers at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Myles Cole at slot 203, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the 239th overall pick: Frank Gore Jr. for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
