Nobody else had Carson Steele anywhere near pick 226. The Chargers did, by 33 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Turner at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Dallas Turner in No. 37 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Mike Sainristil at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, MarShawn Lloyd in the 105th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Tyrice Knight in slot 109, and that is fine. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cole Bishop slid further than he should have, and pick No. 142 is lovely value for the safety. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had cheaper options than AJ Barner at the 183rd pick, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Steele well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
