Los Angeles Chargers

A costly weekend of dealing drags the Chargers to a C-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chargers took Jalyx Hunt at the Round 3 slot, roughly 37 spots before his name belonged.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Chargers indulged a want in Hunt while a need in interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots stayed open.

Getting Amegadjie where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.5 · Pick 5 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In the 5th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 35
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in No. 37 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 53
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Kiran Amegadjie worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Jalyx Hunt · S-EDGE · rank 131
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went S-EDGE with Jalyx Hunt while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots sat open.
R3.35 · Pick 98 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 104
Marshawn Kneeland at the 98th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
A reach on Darius Robinson in slot 105; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.22 · Pick 122 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 144
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Beaux Limmer well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 183
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Davis went about where he belonged in slot 183. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 234
They paid a round early for Trevor Keegan in Round 7, Pick 6, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
