The Chargers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Mike Sainristil, the No. 82 name on the board, in the 105th pick. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Williams proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a building block for the line at fair value.
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in Round 2, Pick 5, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Corum in slot 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Mike Sainristil at No. 105 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A reach on Isaiah Williams in the 183rd overall pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A tidy little value on Kingsley Eguakun in pick 226, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
