Whoever sat across the table from the Chargers should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Chop Robinson at the 33rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 55. A minor itch, scratched.
Blake Corum at Round 3, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Wilson at No. 78 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Gabriel Murphy in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dallin Holker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Braelon Allen at pick 120 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Grayson Murphy in the 142nd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Omar Speights in slot 183, miles early. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
