You build a draft on nights like this. Nicholas Singleton had no business being available in the 217th pick, and the Patriots did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a sticky cover corner. More want than need.
Tate Ratledge in the 38th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach pick 69 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jihaad Campbell at No. 77 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quinshon Judkins in the 105th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Jake Majors at pick No. 143 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Steal is underselling it; Nicholas Singleton at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Taaffe at Round 7, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Shilo Sanders in slot 241; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
